Mary Elizabeth Winstead Is Mary Todd In ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.’

Forget those
earlier reports that Robin McLeavy joined the film in the same role. They were wrong.
THR reports that one of the other contenders for the role, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, has landed the role of Abraham Lincoln‘s wife, Mary Todd, in Timur Bekmambetov‘s upcoming “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.” The actress recently cropped up on a shortlist for “The Avengers” (the role went to Cobie Smulders) and was rumored earlier in the month for Lois Lane in “Superman” (and if true, we’d imagine she’s out of the running now).

Winstead joins a cast that includes Benjamin Walker, Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper in the film based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith which itself is based on the faux diaries of the president (Walker) given to the author by a vampire named Henry Sturgess (Cooper). Sturgess saved Lincoln’s life when he battles a vampire as a teenager, and the two become fast friends. Sturgess teaches Lincoln about the history of vampirism, trains him in combat, and sends the president to hunt and kill evil vampires. Mackie will play the president’s best friend, Will.

Production on the film should be gearing up soon, and it will hit theaters on June 22, 2012.
