RECORD! A fang-tastic first weekend! Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez's Hotel Transylvania rakes in $43million at the box office

Cinema goers sunk their teeth into Hotel Transylvania this weekend and the family film raked in a whopping $43million at the US box office.
The animated Sony Pictures movie features voices from the likes of Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez.
It is the highest grossing first weekend for a film since the release of The Dark Knight Rises in July.

According to studio estimates released on Sunday, it’s also one of the strongest starts ever for a film coming out in September.
Other films making their debut at cinemas this weekend also fared well.
Action movie Looper, which stars Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, followed behind Hotel Transylvania and opened with $21.2million.

In third place was End of Watch, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and America Ferrera.
The drama film, about two police officers, raked in $8million.
Following close behind was Amy Adams’ new movie Trouble With The Curve, which took in $7.53million.

Meanwhile comedy Pitch Perfect, which centres on two warring a capella groups, also tested the waters this weekend.
The Rebel Wilson and Anna Kendrick film premiered in 335 cinemas across 125 cities brought in a respectable $5.2million.
The movie will open nationwide next weekend.
