The detective novel from last week’s Doctor Who is now available as an ebook

If you watched last week's Doctor Who episode, "The Angels Take Manhattan," and found yourself wishing you could read an actual Melody Malone mystery, you're in luck. BBC has just released an ebook about the dame detective who's "packing cleavage that could fell an ox at twenty feet."

This week, the BBC released Doctor Who: The Angel's Kiss, by Justin Richards, in ebook form. Although it has the same cover and some of the same prose as the book the Doctor and Amy read, this isn't the same future telling novel. Rather than a full novel in which Rory, Amy, and the Doctor showing up halfway through, The Angel's Kiss is a short story starring River as the wry detective named Melody Malone. Here's the synopsis:
On some days, New York is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
This was one of the other days…
Melody Malone, owner and sole employee of the Angel Detective Agency, has an unexpected caller. It's movie star Rock Railton, and he thinks someone is out to kill him. When he mentions the ‘kiss of the Angel', she takes the case. Angels are Melody's business…
At the press party for Railton's latest movie, studio owner Max Kliener invites Melody to the film set of their next blockbuster. He's obviously spotted her potential, and Melody is flattered when Kliener asks her to become a star. But the cost of fame, she'll soon discover, is greater than anyone could possibly imagine.
Will Melody be able to escape Kliener's dastardly plan – before the Angels take Manhattan?
Just because the Doctor doesn't star in this particular work doesn't mean that there aren't Whoniversal references scattered throughout, though. Sadly, though, Amy's afterward is absent.
You can buy the ebook from Random House or your ebook vendor of choice for around £2.
