'Monster' director Patty Jenkins considered for 'Thor 2' -- BREAKING
**Branagh worked out, so let's see about this one;-)
Marvel Studios may be sending Patty Jenkins, who directed Charlize Theron to an Oscar win with 2003′s harrowing Monster, to the celestial realm of Asgard.
Jenkins, who is repped by CAA, also directed the acclaimed pilot to AMC’sThe Killing, as well as episodes of Entourage and Arrested Development. She would be taking on Thor 2from the original movie’s director Kenneth Branagh. The film is set to begin shooting next April, with plans to be in theaters by July 2013.
There was no official confirmation from Marvel about Jenkins, but several sources close to the project said talks are ongoing.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told EW that plans were developing fast for the sequel, which he said would “take Thor literally to other worlds.” While moviegoers will next see Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-swinging hero in The Avengers next May, Thor 2 would “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds,” Feige said.
The Nine Worlds are the different planes of existence, of which Earth is one, that Thor and his Asgardian brethren recognize. It’s part of a push to expand the cosmic side of the Marvel Comics universe, which includes many more intergalactic heroes and villains.
Though much attention will be paid to the fact that Thor will be getting a woman’s touch, no one who saw Monster or The Killing can accuse Jenkins of being soft. If anything, Thor may actually be facing much rougher treatment this time around if Jenkins gets the job.
