UPDATE!!! - Tina Fey Is Developing a Witch Movie, But Not a ‘Hocus Pocus’ Sequel

Sorry, “Hocus Pocus” fans — Tina Fey is not producing a sequel to the cult 1993 comedy. Instead, Fey is said to be in talks with Disney to produce and star in a currently untitled movie that is centered around witchcraft but is unrelated to the Bette Midler laffer.

 

Variety has learned that Fey will produce the new project alongside “Cinderella” producer Allison Shearmur.

 

The Twitterverse briefly erupted into nostalgic paroxysms on Wednesday morning, after a site called Tracking Board mistakenly reported that Fey and her production company, Little Stranger, would produce a “Hocus Pocus” sequel. But a rep for Fey insists, “Their report is not accurate — Tina is not developing a sequel to ‘Hocus Pocus.’”

 

The original film, directed by Kenny Ortega, starred Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as a family of witches known as the Sanderson sisters. While critically derided upon its release, the Disney comedy soon gained a loyal following on video and DVD.

Earlier this week, a picture of him dressed as the bespectacled reporter Clark Kent emerged.

 

Now, an image of Henry Cavill as Kent's alter ego Superman has been released for his role in the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

 

The 31-year-old is seen dressed in the iconic superhero costume as he stands in the rain in the first official picture from the hotly anticipated movie.

First look: Henry poses on the set of Batman v. Superman Dawn Of Justice to promote a Royal Marines charity... and reveals his new Clark Kent costume

Earlier this week, an image of Henry as Clark Kent was released.

In the first film Man Of Steel, he had not yet started his job at the Daily Planet newspaper.

Henry posed on set of the movie for the charity Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, of which he is an ambassador.

The actor is seen holding a T-shirt for the Royal Marine 1664 Challenge, a fundraiser that helps seriously injured and wounded Royal Marines get the help they need.

Behind him, a chair with the name 'Clark' is written across it, hinting that he is posing in the character's costume.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Ben Affleck could star in his own standalone Batman movie.

Recurring his role: Henry, 31, in a still from the 2013 Superman reboot Man Of Steel

 

The Argo star has reportedly landed his own solo outing set for 2019, which Warner Bros. is lining up to follow on from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and The Justice League in 2017.

According to Latino Review, the film is speculatively called 'The Batman' and is being planned for four years' time because of Ben's busy schedule.

The rumours aren't as far fetched as they seem since the 41-year-old actor has signed on for multiple movies as the Caped Crusader.

Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane from Man Of Steel have all signed on to reprise their parts and Jesse Eisenberg will star as Lex Luthor.

AWESOME!!! - Guardians Of The Galaxy's Full Soundtrack Revealed

Yesterday we got a fantastic first look at and news about the soundtrack for Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy. The studio officially revealed the cover art for the album - which is a mixtape labeled "Awesome Mix Vol. 1" sat in the cassette player aboard Star-Lord's ship - and revealed that it would be available in stores on July 29th. What they forgot to include - to the chagrin of many - was the name of the various songs that made up the tracklist. Thanks to director James Gunn, that's no longer an issue.

As he's been doing a lot lately, the filmmaker took to his personal Facebook account recently to calm fans who are upset that we still don't know what songs are going to be featured in Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition to the list of 12 songs, he also included a memo explaining what the songs mean to him and how they will be presented in the film. You can read his thoughts below:

NOTE this is not the entirety of the Mixed Tape that Peter Quill listens to, the one that I gave to Chris Pratt that he listened to endlessly before the movie started. That is a longer list, that includes these songs, among others. I'll release that full list closer to the release of them film

As I predicted yesterday, the songs featured in the trailer - "Hooked on a Feeling" by Blue Swede, "Spirit In The Sky" by Norman Greenbaum, and "Cherry Bomb" by The Runaways - are all going to be part of the movie, along with some other very eclectic titles from many different genres. I'm personally not going to start hardcore listening to these tracks now, instead waiting for Guardians of the Galaxy to use them in its own context, but now I know that the movie is going to have me tapping my foot way more than expected.

Tina Fey Rumored to be Producing HOCUS POCUS 2 [Updated]

You never want to ruin a childhood classic, but when someone throws out the idea of more Hocus Pocus, all sequel/reboot/remake logic is lost to the thrill of possibly getting to spend more time with the Sanderson sisters.  A rumor that a Hocus Pocus sequel was in the works first popped up just about two years ago, but there hasn’t been a single stitch of news about the film since – until now.  Hit the jump to find out who’s rumored to have joined the project and what direction they plan to take with the story this time around.

[Update: Unfortunately, Tina Fey's reps have reached out (via Deadline) to say that she is not developing a Hocus Pocus sequel after all.  Instead, Fey is actually in early development on an untitled witch project at Disney, which is described as being in the vein of Ghostbusters.  She will produce and is also attached to star in the supernatural pic (which, again, is not Hocus Pocus 2).  Our original story follows after the jump.]

The 1993 Kenny Ortega-directed release stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the notorious Sanderson sisters, a group of witches who are killed by an angry mob back in 1693.  However, just before they’re hung, Winifred Sanderson (Midler) casts a spell; “On All Hallows Eve when the moon is round, a virgin will summon us from under the ground.” Basically, if a virgin lights the black flame candle on Halloween, the Sanderson sisters come back to life and, sure enough, 300 years later, Max Dennison (Omri Katz) comes to town, tries to prove the legend wrong, lights the candle and winds up bringing the sisters back to town.

Despite having an intense crush on Katz for much of my childhood, Midler, Parker and Najimy are the main reasons Hocus Pocus is so unforgettable, but if The Tracking Board’s reports are true, Winnie, Sarah and Mary Sanderson will not be the core of Hocus Pocus 2.  Here’s what they’re reporting:

“The sequel will pick up years after the original, focusing on a housewife who is related to the Sanderson sisters, who teams up with a witch hunter to save her children after they run afoul of some resurrected witches while out trick-or-treating. No actors from the original film have been confirmed as returning for the sequel.”

There’s nothing particularly mind-blowing about that scenario until you throw another element of The Tracking Board’s report into the equation – Tina Fey.  Again, only if this news turns out to be true, Tina Fey will produce the Hocus Pocus sequel via her company, Little Stranger, alongside Allison Shearmur, Bryan Oh and Stephen Meinen of Allison Shearmur Productions as well as Jessica Virtue and Tendo Nagenda from Disney, too.

Back in April, Tracking Board posted another piece on the Hocus Pocus sequel in which they noted that the folks behind it were on the hunt for two female leads “in the vein of Tina Fey and Melissa McCarthy.”  If Fey really is on board to produce, it’d make sense for her to snag a role in the film too, especially if there’s one that suits her well.  Having just sat through Tammy, McCarthy making her way into this one is another story.

But of course, nothing’s been confirmed so there’s no getting carried away with the idea of a Hocus Pocus sequel just yet. If Disney, Allison Shearmur Productions or Little Stranger don’t make this thing official soon, I might run, amok. Amok, amok, amok, amok, amok … (Sorry, I had to.)

Katy Perry Sued By Christian Rapper For “Tarnishing” His Song With “Witchcraft”

Katy Perry is being sued by a Christian rapper for allegedly stealing his 2008 hip-hop gospel song, “Joyful Noise,” to create “Dark Horse,” the first single from her 2013 album Prism.

The hip-hop performer, Flame, and his producers filed the suit in Michigan federal court this week, seeking damages for Perry’s alleged use of their Grammy-nominated track to promote the “witchcraft” allegedly found in Perry’s lyrics.

“By any measure, the devoutly religious message of ‘Joyful Noise’ has been irreparably tarnished by its association with the witchcraft, paganism, black magic, and Illuminati imagery evoked by the same music in ‘Dark Horse,’” states the lawsuit.

The “Dark Horse” music video did indeed lead to a petition, signed by more than 60,000 people, demanding its removal for alleged use of offensive religious imagery.

Starz Is Developing Neil Gaiman's ‘American Gods’ With Bryan Fuller, Michael Green

Starz is developing a series based on Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel, “American Gods,” with executive producers Gaiman, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. FremantleMedia North America will produce the series.

“‘American Gods’ is a project that deserves to be made. With our partners at FremantleMedia and with Bryan, Michael and Neil, we believe we can create a series that honors the book and does right by the fans and viewers,” said Starz's managing director, Carmi Zlotnik, in a statement.
Fuller will write the pilot and Green will serve as the series’ showrunner.

“American Gods” portrays a war between the old gods of biblical and mythological roots and a new group of gods “reflecting society's modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.”
Its main character is Shadow Moon, who is described as “an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.”

FremantleMedia North America's Thom Beers, Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk will executive produce the series along with Fuller, Green and Gaiman. Vice President of Original Programming Ken Segna will be the Starz executive in charge of “American Gods.” Starz will retain all network pay-TV and subscription VOD rights to the project. FremantleMedia will distribute the series worldwide.

Gaiman's 2001 novel has been translated into more than 30 languages and earned numerous awards including a Hugo, Nebula and a Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel.

“American Gods” represents FMNA's continued push into scripted programming. It's also currently in production on “The Returned,” an American adaptation of the French series, for A&E. The company is best known in the U.S. for its nonfiction fare, including “The X Factor” and “America's Got Talent.”

Once Upon a Time has filled two Frozen roles.

Scott Michael Foster (Greek) and newcomer Elizabeth Lail have joined the fourth season of ABC's fairy-tale drama as Kristoff and Anna, respectively, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Both are recurring roles.

STORY 'Once Upon a Time' Finale Teases Icy Fairy-Tale Character for Season 4

In Disney's Oscar-winning film Frozen, Kristoff — Anna's love interest — was voiced by Jonathan Groff, while Anna — Elsa's younger sister — was voiced by Kristen Bell.

The role of Elsa, who was introduced at the end of the season-three finale, still remains to be cast. The character is expected to make her grand entrance in the premiere this fall.

"We are dealing with the world of Frozen," executive producer Adam Horowitz told THR in May. "We are honored to be allowed to do it. We loved the movie. We fell in love with it when it came out last year like everyone did, and we want to do our best to do it justice."

Executive producer Edward Kitsis told THR at the time of Once's iteration of Elsa: "[What] we loved so much about the character of Elsa was that she was considered a villain but she never really was.
