Stars of music, TV and media—among them Ricky Martin, Russell Simmons, “30 Rock” and “True Blood”—were honored at the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards held in New York, The Associated Press reported.
Martin was the recipient of the Vito Russo Award. He was recognized for his appearance on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in which he spoke about coming out gay and being a father. Simmons was honored with the Excellence in Media Award.
GLADD also awarded Outstanding Individual Episode to “30 Rock” for the episode “Klaus & Greta.” Hot vampire program “True Blood” took home Outstanding Drama Series.
Other award winners from yesterday included Scissor Sisters for Outstanding Music Artist; New York Times’ Frank rich for Outstanding Newspaper Columnist; Essence.com for Outstanding Digital Journalism; and The Star-Ledger for Outstanding Newspaper article on Rutgers student Tyler Clementi’s suicide.
