It was commented on widely by many when the nominations were first announced, yet the Golden Raspberry Awards, the Razzies, appear to have lost their way. Less about highlighting the worst films that come out of Hollywood, and more about giving prizes to high profile failures, that was a trend that wasn’t addressed with this year’s ceremony.
It was an exercise, really, in taking simple pot shots. And while there’s extreme value in an antidote to the Oscars and in an awards ceremony that pricks at the egos of Hollywood, dishing out prizes based on which film failed the loudest surely isn’t the best way to go.
Also, one of two of this year’s awards are just plain wrong. Say what you like about Jessica Alba, but was her turn in The Killer Inside Me really worthy of scorn? Yet, she won the Worst Supporting Actress prize, shared across three of her films. None of which she was the worst thing in.
As for the rest? Well, it was split between The Last Airbender and Sex And The City 2. Neither is a film we especially care for (especially the latter, you’ll be surprised to hear). But you can’t help but think that a lot of Hollywood’s shit has been overlooked in a quest to laugh at those two films.
