Last month, an Andy Warhol portrait of Mao Zedong from late actor Dennis Hopper's collection sold for $302,500.
While that seemed like a lot of money at the time, it's NOTHING compared to what art dealer Larry Gagosian paid for a Warhol self portrait at Christie's on Wednesday.
Gagosian dropped 10.8 million pounds, or $17 million, on a "crimson acrylic and silkscreen Warhol portrait, dating from 1967," which hadn't been publicly shown in over 30 years!
Overall, the Christie’s International auction made 61.4 million pounds ($99 million), strongly contributing to the Art Boom currently taking place in London.
Who is your favorite artist? How much would U spend for their work?
