Eye-popping! New American Horror Story promo poster features creepy spiders emerging from a chilling face

Past posters for the series have all been quite ghoulish.
But perhaps none have been as skin crawling as American Horror Story's latest promo poster released on Friday.

At first glance, it looks as though a woman with porcelain skin and deftly applied crimson lipstick is simply resting her eyes, which have been painted with metallic blue eye make-up.

However, on closer inspection, it looks as though some lashes on her right eye have been replaced with the spindly appendages one might associate with a sizable spider.
Things only get creepier, as the left eye features a spider actually crawling out of the unknown woman's eye-socket.

While it's still not clear what the sixth season of the massively successful series will offer, it seems as though it may at least involve an insect theme to some degree.
A quick teaser released back in June - called 'Milli Crossing' - featured a millipede crawling down the face of a woman with silver hair and bright blue eyes who bore a striking resemblance to Lady Gaga.

Then, new set photos released on Monday seemed to feature another huge hint, with a tree carving of the word 'CROATOAN' suggesting the exact setting of the show.
The key word hints that the new season will revolve around the mysterious disappearance of around 115 settlers from the Roanoke colony in North Carolina in 1590.

As recounted by History.com, the colony had been home to English settlers, including governor John White, who had returned to the homeland at the behest of Queen Elizabeth I.

A major naval war broke out between England and Spain just as he arrived, delaying his return to Roanoke for at least three years.
