Director Patty Jenkins, best known for her excellent Aileen Wournos biopic MONSTER, has vacated the director's chair of Marvel Studios' THOR 2 during pre-production.
Jenkins was originally brought in to replace GAME OF THRONES director Brian Kirk, who was brought in to replace Kenneth Branagh.
All three have reportedly cited "creative differences" as their reason for dropping out, (although Branagh is still attached in a producer capacity, so we shouldn't read too much into that). Exactly what these problems with the project are, we'll have to wait and see.
While we don't predict many Thor fans are going to be particularly gutted by Jenkins departure - the filmmaker being new to the fantastical was always a little troubling (or brave, depending on how you look at it) - we should bear in mind that even though it's due November 13th 2013, Marvel Studios will now have to really rush to find a replacement. And let's all remember what happened when Bryan Singer exited X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND late in the game. Didn't turn out so well did it.
So, with Jenkins gone, who would you like to see take over?
