Rachel Weisz Now Joining Sam Raimi's 'Oz: The Great and Powerful'

Rachel Weisz
The prequel story already has James Franco set up to play a younger version of the infamous Wizard of Oz, and Mila Kunis is playing Theodora, the younger version of the Wicked Witch of the West, but another talent is now joining Oz: The Great and Powerful. Deadline reports Rachel Weisz (The Lovely Bones, The Constant Gardener) is in talks to play Evanora, the meaner, older witch sister of Theodora. While I was apprehensive about a project with ties to a classic like The Wizard of Oz, this cast sounds rather interesting. However, I'm still wondering if Raimi's loyal collaborator Bruce Campbell will be involved.

For those just hearing about the project, the story is said to follow the Wizard back when he was a young illusionist with a grandiose attitude who is forced to flee a traveling circus. His life takes an interesting turn when his hot air balloon is swept up by a tornado to the land of Oz, then run by two magical wicked witches. So not only is this an origin story for the Wizard, but also for the Wicked Witch of the West and the Wicked Witch of the East, not to mention Glinda the Good Witch of the North. Honestly, I can't wait to see who else gets cast in this flick. Sound good so far?
