BRIDPORT: Christian group to protest at Bridport pagan meeting

View Online

CHRISTIAN demonstrators are planning to protest outside a pagan moot in Bridport in an attempt to warn people about the “dangers” of the occult.

The new Christian movement, known as Christian Soldiers Dorset, will hold their first protest outside of a pagan moot in Bridport next month.

The group say they are expecting a high turn out for what is planned to be a peaceful vigil.

Organiser of the Pagan Moot, Adam Marlborough, however says the protest is a waste of time and will not deter him or others from holding meetings.

“I believe in freedom of speech but I do think there are better things they could do with their time,” he said.

“I don’t have any problem with it as long as it’s peaceful but that remains to be seen as there was a spiritual fair in Bridport not long ago which the police had to be called to due to protestors.

“I think people pick on easy targets, they wouldn’t picket outside a mosque for instance and yet they don’t share their views. It certainly won’t deter me from holding the moot though.”

The Bridport Pagan Moot will be held at the George Hotel on Tuesday, July 5th at 8pm.

The moot is held every month; July’s meeting features a talk by Anastasia entitled ‘Earth Astrology and Colour Energy.’

A spokesperson for the Christian Soldiers Dorset group said: “We are a new Christian movement in Dorset, set up to warn people, especially the young, of the dangers of getting involved in the occult. To this end we aim to hold peaceful vigils outside occult events, in the hope of turning people away from the path of evil towards God’s love.”

Protesters will be gathering outside the meeting at 7:45pm.

Pottermore Revealed To Be an Interactive Harry Potter Experience [PICS]

by for Mashable

Pottermore, a mysterious new site by J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter book series, is an online hub for everything Harry Potter-related, Rowling revealed on YouTube on Thursday.

Pottermore, which Rowling created in partnership with Sony, will include an interactive reading experience of the Harry Potter books. Fans will also be able to buy audio books and, for the first time, Harry Potter novels as ebooks.

The site goes live in October, but some users will be able to enter early. Additional details about that will be revealed on the site on July 31, but Rowling dropped a clue for those aching to enter the site early: “Follow the Owl.”

Earlier reports that Pottermore is an online gaming site seem to have been incomplete. Gaming elements, such as accomplishments and virtual items, are visible in some of the photos on the site; however, Rowling doesn’t directly mention the gaming element in her announcement.

Super excited!

Secret of J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore revealed!!!

by: Chris Morris of Plugged In

For the past few weeks, the Web has been buzzing about J. K. Rowling's mysterious Pottermore project. And while details won't be officially unveiled until Thursday, all signs are pointing to it being an online game revolving around the Harry Potter universe.

A leaked memo has revealed Pottermore to be a persistent world that blends World of Warcraft with real world treasure hunts. Users will dig up clues, which will let them find prizes in the real world.
The memo says Thursday's announcement, which will come via YouTube, will discuss the project's partners and focus on what people can find - particularly quills and wands hidden around the U.S. and U.K.
As often happens with leaks of major projects, it's unclear if the game is the full extent of Pottermore - or simply a tie-in promotion for a larger project. Rowling has made it clear, though, that whatever Pottermore may be, it is NOT a new Harry Potter book.

Potter fansite The Leaky Cauldron is one of the few places that apparently has seen the project. Not surprisingly, they've taken an unbreakable vow of silence about the specifics, but have previously described it as "one of the most amazing, engaging and breathtaking additions to this fandom imaginable".

(Keep in mind, that's a fan site - so the Hogwarts Hype Express runs pretty fast there.)

As for the rest of us Muggles, we'll learn tomorrow how accurate these reports are - and exactly what Rowling has in store for us.

There's good reason for the excitement. The Harry Potter books have sold about 450 million copies worldwide, given birth to a massive film franchise, several video game tie-ins and a theme park. Forbes ranks Rowling as one of the richest women in Britain, with an estimated wealth of $1 billion.

Games of Thrones Recap, or as I call it "IS THAT IT???"

By Wendy, the NOT so good Witch

**Spoilers - DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE LAST EPISODE***

The final episode of 'Game of Thrones' ended on Sunday and I have finally finished processing my annoyance about it.

After yelling 'is that it' repeatedly at the dark screen and trailer for 'True Blood,' I still do not understand how you end a season of television like that.  There was no closure. no tying up anything, no, you left us with several dead stars and three dragons...just enough tantalizing bits to keep us watching, but not enough to leave a pleasing taste either.

I love that the show turns on edge, that is the reason I love 'Doctor Who' and 'Lost.'  The mythos created is lush, imaginative and uncomfortable.  I just wanted some sort of ending...'True Blood' manages a cliff-hanger and an ending...

What are you thoughts???

James Wan To Make THE CONJURING?

Ain't It Cool News and Variety

Nordling here.

I liked INSIDIOUS quite a bit, even if it didn't quite stick the landing.  Up until the last 20 minutes or so, INSIDIOUS was a really effective haunted story.  But once they go into the Further, INSIDIOUS slams facefirst into the film's low budget, and it never quite recovers (although the very end is pretty creepy).  But Leigh Whannell and James Wan, for the budget, delivered a film that has more scares that work than a film that cost 10 times that.  Considering the profit that INSIDIOUS made, there was no doubt that Wan would return to the genre, and now it looks like Wan will be making another supernatural horror film, called THE CONJURING, according to Variety.

THE CONJURING will be loosely based on true events that happened to the Perron family in Rhode Island.  Andrea Parron wrote a book about the incidents, called HOUSE OF DARKNESS, HOUSE OF LIGHT.  Parron describes their property as being haunted by a variety of spirits, including one particular malevolent entity named Bathsheba that terrorized her mother.  Some of the spirits were friendly, some were not, and the Parron family endured both for 10 years before leaving the area.  I'm a skeptic when it comes to this stuff, but that doesn't keep me from enjoying a good ghost story, and if Wan is making this I'd bet he'll bring a lot of scares and fun to this one.

Nordling, out.
